2004-01-14 - 12:24 a.m.

I registered for classes today. Principles of Management and Sociology of Medicine. Should be interesting.

I just put on Scotland, PA. Fucking awesome movie, but I am thinking it was a mistake to put it on at midnight. I really should get some sleep tonight.

I think I have a huge sleep debt but...

Does anyone else get more tired when they start to pay off their sleep debt?

The skin on my face is so fucking dry from the wind and from too much exfoliation. Winter was not the right time to start w/ a facial scrub again.

This weekend, I mostly stayed in (see sleep debt above, I stayed up later and later and then, by the weekend, I crashed, and it was fucking cold, in case you hadn't noticed), but I went out to Alston to see the Deal and the Audrey Ryan Band at Harper's Ferry on Sunday. Decent show.

This Friday I have a dinner party and, shhh... don't tell anyone, a party later.

So, what is the goal of foreign policy for the left? The conservatives have a clear goal in their relations with other nations but what about the left?

If the left, if the demmies, don't want to promote interventionism, if globalization is too controversial, then what is the point?

Are we just supposed to be staying the course (Yea, that's real progressive)? Do we support intervention and globalization when a Democrat is in office but not when a Republican is (hypocrite)?

Any ideas?

It is my thesis that the focus of the left in the foreign policy arena should be squared clearly on economic development aboard and the promotion of regional governmental bodies (such as the OAS, the Arab League and the OAU as well as the EU). These sorts of organizations have proved to be highly successful in promoting growth and resolving political turmoil.

I've got more to say, like run downs of the failures of the Bush foreign policy (and its successes), the failures of the Clinton executive (possibly more than Bush), the advantages and disadvantages of the UN and so on.

Hopefully, I'll be able to put some sort of coherent argument by the end of the month. Maybe not.

Maybe it is really fucking late (I started typing this around 20 past midnight and it is now 20 of 1)

Any thoughts?
